What Is It That Ye Shall Hope For?

40 And again, my beloved brethren, I would speak unto you concerning hope. How is it that ye can attain unto faith, save ye shall have hope?

41 And what is it that ye shall hope for? Behold I say unto you that ye shall have hope through the atonement of Christ and the power of his resurrection, to be raised unto life eternal, and this because of your faith in him according to the promise.

42 Wherefore, if a man have faith he must needs have hope; for without faith there cannot be any hope.

43 And again, behold I say unto you that he cannot have faith and hope, save he shall be meek, and lowly of heart.”

My Bishop shared this scripture with me as he and my Stake President paid me a visit last night. As we all shed tears together, I finally realized that, all along, I have been hoping for the wrong thing.

Satan would have me hope for something unguaranteed, uncertain, unsure- a baby- so that every month when my period comes, I doubt, I’m let down, saddened and my belief and trust dwindle a bit more.

However, the Savior would have me hope for something stable, grounded, firm and sure- Himself- so that when yet another year passes without a baby, my faith and hope will still be sure and firm because it is placed in Someone who is sure and firm.

All along, I’ve been hoping in the wrong thing…
